Cover Design for Pieneta Fresco
A cover for the underground psychedelic culture magazine ‘Pianeta Fresco’ (Cool Planet) by Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass. The magazine was founded by Sottsass, along with his wife Fernanda Pivano and beat poet Allen Ginsburg.
With only two issues ever published, contributors included Timothy Leary and Paul McCartney. The magazine promoted disarmament and civil rights, and the psychedelic artwork reflected themes of liberation, exploration of other cultures and universal love.
In the early 1980’s, Sottsass founded the Memphis Group, pioneers of postmodern design.
