A monochrome mural sketch drawn by American architect Louis Khan during his illuminating trip to Egypt whilst teaching at Yale University. He saw the pyramids, not only as enormous masses, timeless and eternal, but also as vehicles of light and reflectors of the sun’s rays, seen by the heavily contrasting shadows. This renewed awe of historical design played a pivotal role in the development of Khan’s iconic monumental and monolithic architectural style. Formerly using light weight steel structures, he then went on to exclusively build with masonry and reinforced concrete.
