A print of a hand coloured antique woodblock of an American Bittern by The Reverend Francis Orpen Morris, from "A History Of British Birds”. Morris was an Irish parson/naturalist who wrote books for children's books as well as on natural history.  However, his life-long passion was devoted to protecting birds from the plume trade leading to his founding of the Plumage League in 1885. He forged an extremely productive partnership with woodblock printer Benjamin Fawcett that lasted over 50 years and had a significant impact on Victorian ornithology.

Print size: 12 x 18cm
