Mario Asprucci was the son of the famous architect Antonio Asprucci (1723-1808). They are best known for their work on the Villa Borghese in Rome, which was commissioned by Prince Marcantonio IV de Borghese.

The temple still stands in the garden, however the statue of the goddess Diana, a 2nd century CE Roman copy of a Greek original from the 4th century BCE, is now housed in the Louvre.

Camilo Borghese was the brother-in-law of Napoleon, and after suffering financial difficulties, he found himself pressured into handing over a huge part of his collection.

The original drawing was made in pen, ink and wash on laid paper.

We love the soft pink wash marking the sections of marble , which are enhanced by this deep, rust- red frame.

Hand-painted in 'Devon Red' by Colourman and finished with matt varnish.
